Silk Sonic and Olivia Rodrigo were the big winners of the night bringing in at least two awards each.
Olivia gained stardom from her Disney Channel roles in Bizzardvark and High School Musical: the Musical: the Series. Her music following skyrocketed after her story with costar Joshua Bassett came to light. Her album "Sour" led her to win Best New Artist, a heavily watched category after greats like Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, Maroon 5, and more. This category has clearly predicted some of the greatest artists of our time... so who knows where Olivia's career might go?
Personally, I enjoy Olivia's music and find her to have great potential in the music industry. Is she on the level of other artists yet? no, but, there is definitely something there that has caught everyone's eye. I hope to see her eventually step out of her comfort zone on her next album and surprise us with a different sound.
Silk Sonic's wins are unsurprising considering the duo includes two amazing musicians and lyricists: Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars. Bruno of course has won 15 Grammys himself... yes 15, and 13 of them have been since 2016. Anderson on the other hand has won 7, another impressive accomplishment on his own. This duo is a force to be reckoned with and makes the perfect combination for a soulful hip sound.
Overall, I thought this year's Grammy winners were better than previous years and I hope to see the Grammys go back to their roots and pick artists who have talent over those who are well known in pop culture.
