You heard me right. The children's movie with the minions has a great soundtrack. Why? It has the catchiness of a radio song with kid-friendly lyrics that can be easily relatable to anyone.
It doesn't hurt that the album was produced by one of the most famous and talented producers in the music industry, Pharell. Pharell has produced for artists from Blackstreet to Shakira to Despicable Me. Currently, the song "Just a Cloud Away" is going viral on Tiktok with over 400k videos made with the sound.
I really appreciate that they were able to make a children's movie more pleasing with the music. This seems to have begun a trend as well in the children's animation realm. Following Despicable Me, the remake of the animated version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas capitalized on this same idea by having Tyler, The Creator appear on and produce multiple songs within the movie. Furthermore, we even see Disney begin to use music to their advantage with the latest hit Encanto, produced by Lin-Manuel Miranda. "We Don't Talk About Bruno" became a hit with audiences and reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
I think this change in animation scores has really taken off with the Despicable Me soundtracks and will continue to follow in the footsteps of Pharell's genius!
