We all have that one song that brings back memories. Maybe where you were and what you were doing when you first heard it or who you were with. 'That' song for me is "Hey There Delilah" by the Plain White T's.
I'm not sure why I remember so many small details about the first time I heard this song, but every time I hear it, it brings me back.
It was a hot day in Phoenix, Arizona, and my family including aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins were piled in a 15 passenger van. We were vacationing at a resort and every few days would go on day trips to tourist attractions across the state of Arizona. Today, we were going to the grand canyon, a long-awaited trip! We packed up the van and began to run our morning errands before we got on the road. We had to stop at Rite Aid for ibuprofen. On a 115 degree day in Arizona, air condition is a must and I decided to place my face right in front of one in the passenger seat of the car. The radio comes on and announces a new song by the Plain White T's. As the song plays I listen in and am hooked. I will never forget that moment even if it was mundane.
I love that music can connect so easily to moments in your life. Moments of joy, sadness, excitement, thrill, and more can be so easily defined by one song. Some may only have one and some may have a plethora of songs, regardless, they all mean something.
What is your song?
